Identifying non-cash items

Although the cash flow statement will be in balance when you capture the income statement and balance sheet, this initial calculation will likely include non-cash items you need to clear.

Non-cash items detected by Flowkash

Some non-cash items will be identified by Flowkash, based on the accounting treatment you assigned to them.  The total of these items is flagged by Flowkash as a balance check error:

To view the detail of these items, click the error message This action will take you to the section of the cash flow statement where these items are listed:

Identifying other non-cash items from your financial statements

After you've cleared the known non-cash items, it will be necessary that you read through the notes to your financial statements to identify any other items that need to be addressed. These items will fall into two broad categories:

  1. Non-cash items that are not separately disclosed at the level of the Income statement. An example of this is non-cash finance costs (e.g. unwinding of provisions) that are typically bundled with finance costs in general in the income statement); and

  2. Non-cash movements within balance sheet items. Typical examples include non-cash acquisition of fixed assets (e.g. property transferred between government agencies at no charge)

Flowkash is framework-agnostic, however the language used in the app is drawn from IFRS.
